Improved Calendaring

List View

A new list view for calendar events has been added in this release. The list view offers a new look for your calendar events and can be organized by date, event title, or calendar name. Just like with the other calendar views, the list view can be printed from the calendar print link.

Multi-day Event Support

Calendar events may now span multiple days within the calendar. Multi-day events are not supported on all calendar view at this time. Support for additional calendar views will be added in a later release.

Calendar event may now be listed on multiple calendars. This new feature reduces the need for duplicate events when an event applies to multiple calendars.

Calendar Time Zone Support

Full time zone support has been added to the calendar in this release. Calendar users now have the option of viewing their online calendar from anywhere in the world based on their time zone preferences.

Event Duplicate and Overlap Checking

When adding an event, the calendar system now checks to see if that event is a duplicate or is conflicting with an existing event in the same calendar. The event error checking can be overridden if needed.

Event Status Support

Event status support has been added to the calendar to provide enhanced event details. The event status will allow you to set the event as Tentative, Confirmed, or Cancelled. Marking an event as cancelled will also place a strike-through over the event title whenever it appears in the calendar. Event status is supported when importing and exporting events with other calendars supporting event status.

Calendar RSS

Really Simple Syndication (RSS) is a format for syndicating news and other content to desktop and website feed readers. By adding support for RSS to the calendar, you may now receive the latest calendar updates straight to your desktop or website. For security reasons, RSS support is currently only available for public calendars.

Event File Attachments

File attachments can now be added to calendar events. Entering in a file location allows one click download access when viewing the event details. This is useful if you wish to link to a PDF or Spreadsheet document from an event.

Personal Calendar Viewing

Administrators with the highest access level now have the ability to view the personal calendars of other admin users. This also allows the admin to make changes to the calendar if needed. This feature may be turned off if needed.

Event Invite Expiration

Event Invites are now automatically cleaned from your Event Invites screen after the event date has past. This helps keep your account organized and will avoid ongoing reminders for event invitations.

Custom Alert Messages

Users may now include custom alert messages for any event alerts they set. This is great for adding additional reminder notes that are specific to an event.

Event Details Window

The event details pop-up window has been enhanced to provide more information about an event. Other improvements include automatically linking any website or email address found in the event description and calendar colors in the details.

Improved Permission Levels

The calendar admin permission levels have been simplified to allow for easier management of your calendar. The permission levels are now labeled, and offer three choices when setting up calendar administrators.

Individual Calendar Administrators

Calendars may now be linked to individual administrators no matter what their access level. This is a great feature for setting up calendar administrators without the need to allow admins access to other areas of the calendar.

Calendar speed has been improved greatly in this release, and this helps to provide an even better user experience.

Sorted columns are now highlighted in the calendar to provide better visual feedback.

Simplified Recurring Events Setup

The Event Recurrence area found in the event add/edit screen has now been simplified to make setting up a recurring event even easier. The recurrence options will now change based on the recurrence type selected.

Confirmation dialogs have been added to the calendar to help protect information from being accidentally removed.

User Account Features

User Time Zone Preferences

With the new time zone support, users now have the option to control their time zone preferences in the Calendar Preferences area. This allows a user to set their time zone for virtually anywhere in the world. Optionally, users may select to automatically adjust their time zone based on their computer time zone settings.

Calendar Subscription Manager

The calendar subscriptions page has been moved to the user preferences area and has been given an upgrade. The Subscription Manager now gives users the ability to subscribe to multiple calendars using multiple email addresses. So you can now stay informed of changes for any calendar you choose.

Recurring Events

New Recurring Event Types

One of our more popular feature requests since the initial release of mypersonalcal.com has been to add support for additional event recurrence types. With this release we have add the ability to setup event recurrence for bi-weekly or monthly by day. This allows you to now setup recurring events every other week, or for example, on the third Friday of each month. This addition adds much greate flexibility to your calendar events.

In the event that a recurring event is not going to take place on a particular day, you now have the option to remove the event from specific dates.

Just like with your favorite desktop calendar, you may now edit recurring events by date. This allows you to make changes to recurring events for a specific date.

Apple iCal Integration

Current users of the Apple iCal program now have the ability to continuously sync their mypersonalcal.com calendars to iCal. This allows users to compare with their existing iCal calendars from within the same window. Clicking on the iCal Sync link located near the Print link will automatically setup their calendar in iCal.

Enhanced Event Import/Export

Many changes have been made to the way events are imported and exported in the calendar. These changes allow for better results when synchronizing your calendar with various desktop calendar programs. Some of these changes include support for the new event status feature, and full time zone compatibility between programs.

New Import Format

To help with importing existing events into your new calendar, we've added support for the Microsoft Outlook CSV format. The new format allows Outlook users to import additional event information directly into their calendars. This will also allow users to export specific date ranges from Outlook for importing.
